Media Studies Prelim Evaluation Alvarez

The shots that we used in our film were match on action, shot reverse shot and 180 degree rule. We used the match on action rule when we opened the door from both sides. This effect did not work well for us because when it skipped to the other side it jumped and didn’t look real. A match on action shot is where an action is commenced in shot A and completed in shot B. or an action shot in A is mirrored by an action in B. A shot reverse shot is where one character is shown looking at another character and then the other character us shown looking back. We did not use this in our film but I think it would look good because it shows each persons reaction. The 180 degree rule happened when Ella walked through the classroom. This is where two characters or elements in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the ‘line’ it is known as a reverse angle.

Our media product represents gender and age. The age group in our film is school pupils at secondary so about 11 – 18, and it includes both male and female. In the film we use upper school students as if someone was being bullied and is in a very difficult situation. We tried to portray them in a serious way but it did not work very well because of things which were going on in the background distracting us. To do it better next time we would have to be more serious towards it and think up a way of not getting distracted like maybe having a classroom to ourselves one day. We tried to achieve them being serious by the different camera angles we used and the dialogue, sound and props. The dialogue we used was serious and would be what anyone would say when in the situation of the film. The sound was quite dramatic like when we opened the door to the hanging body it just cut out suddenly and went silent.

Exam boards and school might distribute our media product to show other students what is expected (or not) in this piece of work. It gives them something to work by and show examples of so the students would know what is expected by them. It could also go on the school websites to show anyone who visits what is achieved by the school.

The audience for our media product would be school students at secondary school so from 11 to 18. This is because only schools are going to really view this piece of work to give ideas to other students.
